This year, the
International Human Rights Law Group celebrates our 25th anniversary as an internationally recognized organization of pioneering activists and lawyers. During this quarter century of work, IHRLG has achieved significant impact within more than 90 complex and often perilous contexts worldwide through:
- Developing domestic and international law relating to human rights;
- Empowering locally-based human rights activists through training, partnerships, and coalition building; and
- Seeking justice for victims of human rights abuses through advocacy and strategic lawyering.
Since we opened our doors 25 years ago, the human rights community has made great strides. Yet, a quarter of a century later, this progress is still measured in inches. Across the globe, oppressive rulers continue to impose unspeakable cruelties on innocent citizens. Regional conflicts simmer and erupt, claiming families, communities and livelihoods. As long as the human-will exercises its need to dictate, dominate and oppress, human rights activists will be called upon to serve the weak and oppressed.
Today, with a staff of more than 75 human rights professionals representing 20 countries, IHRLG is charting our course for our next 25 years.
