Access to information empowers women to work for change. To facilitate Moroccan women's access to up-to-date resources on human rights and international law, IHRLG operates a multi-lingual, multi-media resource center in Rabat.

In addition, we distribute updates on women's legal issues and NGO activities nationally and internationally to NGOs across Morocco through a weekly e-mail listserv. Our listserv also helps raise international awareness of women's rights concerns in Morocco and connect Moroccan groups with their international counterparts.

Despite the highly developed cyber-infrastructure in Morocco, women's advocacy NGOs and local development associations (LDAs) in Morocco face difficulties accessing information and communication technologies (ICTs). Optimizing the existence of hundreds of cybercafęs throughout Morocco, IHRLG developed WIRED FOR WOMEN'S RIGHTS, a cyberactivism training program for activists, lawyers and development professionals.

This popular interactive, hands-on training program develops activists' computer and advocacy skills simultaneously by introducing them to the steps of conducting effective, broad-reaching advocacy campaigns while exposing them to the strategic uses of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and giving them the technical skills necessary for using ICTs to enhance their work. As a result of this program, IHRLG's Morocco team facilitates an electronic network of more than 60 members representing 37 women's NGOs and LDAs that now uses e-mail and the Internet for research and outreach on a regular basis.

When IHRLG launched our Morocco program in the spring of 2000, there were no resource centers or libraries specifically focusing on women's legal rights in Morocco. Our Women's Rights Resource Center in Rabat is open full-time and contains hundreds of resources in French, Arabic and English on international human rights, women's rights, legal literacy, human rights education, capacity and institution-building for NGOs, and human rights monitoring and advocacy strategies.
