JAMES NYEPAN VERDIER
Africa Programs Fellow

James Verdier, from Liberia, joins the International Human Rights Law Group Africa team through a fellowship from the Center for Civil and Human Rights at Notre Dame Law School. He brings with him more than six years experience in civic education, human rights awareness building and legal aid.

Mr. Verdier earned his LLM in International Human Rights Law in May 2002 from Notre Dame Law School. Prior to pursuing graduate studies in the USA, he distinguished himself as a civil society leader while serving as National Director of the Catholic Justice & Peace Commission, Liberia's foremost human rights NGO. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Liberia.

As an Africa Fellow, James is focusing on a number of issues including devising program strategies, new approaches to the variety of human rights issues IHRLG addresses throughout the Continent, and training projects. He is also exploring areas of IHRLG collaboration with the newly established African Union and its member states to pursue democracy, good governance, economic development and respect for human rights within the framework of the New Partnership for Africa's Development.
