Democratic Republic of Congo Administration & Program Officer, Bukavu
Arsene Kirhero joined the International Human Rights Law Group in October 2001 as Administrative and Program Officer for our Bukavu office. Mr. Kirhero, a professor of history and former assistant dean at the Institut Supérieur Pédagogique in Bukavu, brings to IHRLG many years of experience in capacity building and training for local NGOs. From 1994-2001, he served as assistant director and director of Networks and Innovations for Development (IRED) in Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi. At IRED, Mr. Kirhero was responsible for programs that increased the capacity of local NGOs in the areas of human rights, democracy and good governance, and conflict resolution. He has also worked as a consultant for Oxfam and numerous Congolese NGOs, often providing technical assistance to strengthen local NGOs. He is married and the proud father of eight children!
