ANN J. PROCTER
Ann Procter joined the International Human Rights Law Group in July 2002, bringing with her more than 25 years of experience in politics, writing, development and campaign management. As a Development Associate, Ms. Procter plays an integral role in fundraising for IHRLG programs in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Asia and Latin America, and the Women's Rights Advocacy Program. She also takes a leading role in developing new communications strategies.
Ms. Procter served as speechwriter for U.S. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and as Deputy Press Secretary and speechwriter for California Assembly Speaker Willie L. Brown, Jr. Her passion for politics grew out of her tenure as Legislative Assistant for foreign policy and defense and speechwriter for U.S. Senator Thomas F. Eagleton D-MO, her political mentor.
She has managed development and media projects for Court TV, the University of California, the University of Washington, Planned Parenthood and the California Abortion Rights Action League (CARAL). She has extensive experience crafting development strategies for issues including civic engagement, education, public health and youth development.
A native of California, Ms. Procter received her A.B. from the University of California-Davis and her M.A. in Public Policy from Georgetown University. She coordinates a monthly dinner program for the Washington, DC Samaritan Inns recovery programs and is active in Quaker Workcamps of Washington, DC. She also writes fiction.
